Job Description

We are looking for one permanent Reflief Pedagogue and one Relief Pedagogue for maternity cover. Both positions are in the same home. The post does not attract a work permit. Ireland is in the EU and the posts are open to EU citizens.

This service comprises of two houses which are newly refurbished residential homes able to accommodate up to 4 young people, each with complex needs. The service aims to address areas of care such as, clinical intervention, living environment, education, therapeutic activity and family work.

This is a therapeutic community with a social pedagogical approach. There are currently 8 social pedagogues already employed in the organization.

We are looking for a social care professional to live in for the 6 on -8 off -6 on - 8 off rota. It is essential that you are social care qualified or have a qualification of a branch thereof.

This role is similar to professional fostering and you will share the living space with the children for whom you care. You will run the home alongside the rest of the team, reporting to the Center Manager of the House and the Manager of the service. The team includes a range of professionals, including actitivity therapists.

Most children have experienced abuse and/or neglect and have other bio-psychosocial vulnerabilities, resulting in a range of emotional, social, behavioural problems and concerns about their and others’ wellbeing.

Clinical interventions include psychotherapy, cognitive-behaviour therapy, systemic family therapy, equine assisted therapy, activity-based learning, psycho-education and a range of group interventions. Your role is to create a home for the children (age range is approximately 10 to 17 years old).

The home is a two-storey house and is very well furnished and equipped. There is a kitchen/dining room, a separate sitting room and a snug, for private meetings with families/friends and for quiet times.

This is a rural area and has great views of the countryside and mountains. The clinic has a small farm holding on 7 acres of land, surrounded by forest. It is important that you are fully aware that this is a rural setting and that you are happy to engage with rural life to the full, including outdoor activities, some of which involve animal husbandry.

This is a growing, private company, where team work is extremely important.  We are looking for people who are open to assist in co-creating the service, have an open disposition and are excellent team-players.  Flexibility is key, particularly in relation to the work rota – see below.

Conditions

Salary is outlined above.

Company vehicles are available, and you must have a full clean driving licence that is valid in Ireland and be willing to drive in your work. We also recommend you would need your own vehicle, as public transport is limited.

You will have a standard 160 hours annual leave package, plus Bank Holidays.

It is envisaged your working pattern will be: 6 days working in house, 8 days out of house, 6 days in house and 8 days out of house – this 28 day cycle is repeated. Within these 28 days, you would work 12 days (6 days x 2 in the home).

This is a working pattern that meets children and young people, staff and organisational needs. Flexibility is essential due to work pattern changes.

The day to day routine depends largely on the children and their needs. Your work is supported by other staff e.g. activity therapists, who are on-site typically 9am to 10pm, and entirely responsible for the young person during that time.

Activity therapists may, for example, take young people to engage in activities at the nearby farm, which has a kitchen and office / common room and games room. This means that generally, house pedagogues are working 5.00pm until bed-time, then breakfast in the morning. There is other work to be completed during the days, such as community meetings, professional meetings, training etc. The aim is provide a normal home experience for the children and young people.
